What is this medicine?
SLEEPOSE (Eszopiclone) is a sedative-hypnotic. It is used to treat insomnia, helping you fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. It works by affecting certain substances in your brain to produce a calming effect.


What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?
They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

  • history of drug or alcohol abuse

  • depression, mental health issues, or suicidal thoughts

  • liver disease

  • lung or breathing problems (such as COPD or sleep apnea)

  • myasthenia gravis

  • sleepwalking or other sleep-related behaviors

  • an unusual or allergic reaction to eszopiclone, zopiclone, other medications, foods, dyes, or preservatives

  • if you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant

  • if you are breast-feeding


How should I use this medicine?
Take this medicine by mouth with a glass of water. It is usually taken right before bedtime and only when you are able to get a full night’s sleep (at least 7 to 8 hours). Do not take it more often than prescribed.
Do not take this medicine with or immediately after a high-fat meal, as it may delay its effect.
Avoid alcohol while using this medication.

Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact a poison control center or emergency room right away.


What if I miss a dose?
If you forget to take a dose at bedtime and you cannot get a full night’s sleep, skip the missed dose. Do not take it during the night or double up to make up for a missed dose.


What may interact with this medicine?

  • alcohol

  • antifungal medicines (like ketoconazole, itraconazole)

  • certain antibiotics (like clarithromycin, erythromycin)

  • rifampin

  • other medicines that cause drowsiness (e.g., antihistamines, antidepressants, antipsychotics, seizure medicines, pain relievers)

  • St. John’s Wort

  • sedatives or tranquilizers

  • sleeping pills

This list may not describe all possible interactions. Give your health care provider a list of all the medicines, herbs, non-prescription drugs, or dietary supplements you use. Also tell them if you smoke, drink alcohol, or use recreational drugs.


What should I watch for while using this medicine?

  • You may experience drowsiness or dizziness. Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that requires full mental alertness the day after taking the medicine, especially if you did not get a full night’s sleep.

  • Avoid alcohol and other CNS depressants while taking this medicine.

  • Rare but serious behaviors like sleepwalking, sleep driving, or other activities while not fully awake have been reported. If this occurs, stop taking the medication and contact your doctor immediately.

  • If you experience mood changes, depression, memory issues, or unusual thoughts or behavior, notify your doctor.

  • Do not take more than the prescribed dose.

  • This medication is usually prescribed for short-term use (7–10 days). Long-term use may lead to dependence.


What side effects may I notice from this medicine?

Side effects that you should report to your doctor or health care professional as soon as possible:

  • allergic reactions like rash, itching, swelling of the face/lips/tongue/throat, or difficulty breathing

  • mood changes such as depression, suicidal thoughts, aggression

  • memory problems or confusion

  • hallucinations or abnormal thinking

  • behavioral changes like agitation or restlessness

Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your doctor if bothersome):

  • unpleasant taste in the mouth (metallic or bitter)

  • dry mouth

  • dizziness

  • drowsiness

  • headache

  • lightheadedness

Where should I keep my medicine?
Keep out of the reach of children.

Store at room temperature between 20 and 25 degrees C (68 and 77 degrees F). Protect from light and moisture.

Do not store in the bathroom. Keep the bottle tightly closed.
