What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?

They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

  • Bipolar disorder or manic episodes

  • Liver or kidney disease

  • Heart disease or recent heart attack

  • Seizures or epilepsy

  • Bleeding problems or if you are taking blood thinners

  • Low sodium levels in the blood

  • History of suicidal thoughts or behavior

  • Glaucoma (narrow-angle)

  • An unusual or allergic reaction to escitalopram, citalopram, other SSRIs, foods, dyes, or preservatives

How should I use this medicine?

Take this medicine by mouth with a glass of water. You may take it with or without food. Take your doses at regular intervals, preferably at the same time each day.

Do not stop taking this medicine abruptly unless instructed by your doctor. Stopping suddenly may cause withdrawal symptoms like dizziness, nausea, headache, or irritability.

What if I miss a dose?
