ACCUFINE (Isotretinoin 10 mg) is a retinoid, a derivative of vitamin A. It is used to treat severe forms of acne (such as nodular or cystic acne) that have not responded to other treatments, including antibiotics. It works by reducing the amount of oil released by the skin’s oil glands and helps the skin renew itself more quickly.


What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?

They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

  • Liver disease or abnormal liver function tests

  • High cholesterol or triglyceride levels

  • Diabetes or family history of diabetes

  • Mental health issues such as depression, mood swings, or suicidal thoughts

  • History of eating disorders like anorexia nervosa

  • Bone disorders like osteoporosis

  • Asthma

  • Any known allergies to isotretinoin, soy, parabens, or other medications

  • A history of taking too much vitamin A

  • If you are pregnant, trying to get pregnant, or breast-feeding


How should I use this medicine?

Take this medicine by mouth with a full glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or open the capsule. Take with food to improve absorption.

Take your doses at regular intervals as directed. Do not take more than prescribed. Do not stop taking this medicine unless told by your doctor.

Overdosage: If you believe you have taken too much of this medicine, contact a poison control center or emergency room immediately.


What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not take two doses at the same time.


What may interact with this medicine?

  • Vitamin A supplements

  • Tetracycline antibiotics (e.g., doxycycline, minocycline)

  • Progestin-only birth control pills (may not be effective)

  • Corticosteroids

  • Alcohol (increases risk of liver problems or high cholesterol)

  • Do not drive or operate machinery if you have impaired night vision or feel dizzy.

  • Depression, mood swings, suicidal thoughts or behaviors

  • Vision changes or trouble seeing at night

  • Severe stomach pain, bloody diarrhea, or yellowing of skin/eyes (liver problems)

  • Severe skin reactions or peeling

  • Headaches with nausea or vomiting, especially if vision is affected (could be pseudotumor cerebri)

  • Hearing issues

  • Difficulty urinating or dark urine

  • Chest pain or irregular heartbeat

Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report if persistent or bothersome):

  • Dry lips, mouth, skin, or eyes

  • Nosebleeds

  • Skin sensitivity or redness

  • Joint, back, or muscle pain

  • Temporary acne flare-ups

  • Fatigue

  • Sun sensitivity
