URINFEN 0.4 mg capsule contains Tamsulosin hydrochloride, which is an alpha-blocker. It is used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) — an enlarged prostate. It helps relax the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, making it easier to urinate.


What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?
They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

  • liver disease

  • kidney disease

  • low blood pressure or history of fainting

  • prostate cancer

  • planned cataract or glaucoma surgery

  • an unusual or allergic reaction to tamsulosin or other medicines

  • pregnant or trying to get pregnant (Note: this medicine is typically not for use in women)

How should I use this medicine?
Take this medicine by mouth with a glass of water, about 30 minutes after the same meal each day. Swallow the capsule whole; do not crush, chew, or open it.

Take your doses at regular intervals. Do not take more than directed. Do not stop taking this medicine without speaking to your doctor.

Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.


What if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is nearly time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.


What may interact with this medicine?

  • other alpha-blockers (e.g., doxazosin, terazosin)

  • PDE5 inhibitors (e.g., sildenafil, tadalafil)

  • blood pressure medications

  • cimetidine

  • warfarin

  • certain antifungals (e.g., ketoconazole)

  • certain antibiotics (e.g., erythromycin)

What should I watch for while using this medicine?
Visit your doctor regularly to monitor your condition. Inform them if symptoms do not improve or worsen.

This medicine may cause dizziness, especially when standing up quickly. To reduce the risk, rise slowly from sitting or lying positions.

Let your eye doctor know you are taking this medicine if you are scheduled for cataract or glaucoma surgery, as it may cause complications.

Avoid driving or using heavy machinery until you know how this medicine affects you. Alcohol can worsen dizziness — avoid alcoholic drinks while using this medicine.


What side effects may I notice from this medicine?

Side effects that you should report to your doctor or health care professional as soon as possible:

  • allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling of face/lips/tongue)
