What is this medicine?
ALFUZZ (Alfuzosin 10 mg) is an alpha-blocker. It is used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)—a condition in men where the prostate gland is enlarged, causing difficulty in urination. Alfuzosin helps by relaxing the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, making it easier to urinate.


What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?
They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

  • liver disease

  • kidney disease

  • history of low blood pressure or fainting

  • prostate cancer

  • heart problems, such as angina or irregular heartbeat

  • if you are taking other medications for high blood pressure

  • planned eye surgery (e.g., cataract or glaucoma)

  • an unusual or allergic reaction to alfuzosin, other alpha-blockers, or any ingredients in the tablet

  • pregnant or trying to get pregnant (Note: Not typically used in women)

  • breast-feeding


How should I use this medicine?
Take this medicine by mouth once daily, immediately after the same meal each day, with a glass of water. Swallow the tablet whole; do not crush, chew, or split it.

Take your doses at regular intervals. Do not take your medicine more often than directed. Do not stop taking this medicine except on the advice of your doctor or health care professional.

Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.


What if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.


What may interact with this medicine?

  • other alpha-blockers (e.g., tamsulosin, doxazosin)

  • antifungal medications (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole)

  • certain antibiotics (e.g., erythromycin, clarithromycin)

  • HIV medications (e.g., ritonavir)

  • medications for erectile dysfunction (e.g., sildenafil, tadalafil)

  • blood pressure medications

  • other drugs that affect liver enzymes

What should I watch for while using this medicine?
Visit your doctor or health care professional for regular checks on your progress. Let your doctor know if symptoms do not improve or if they worsen.

This medicine may cause dizziness or fainting, especially when standing up quickly. To reduce the risk, rise slowly from sitting or lying down positions.

If you are scheduled for eye surgery, inform your eye surgeon that you are using alfuzosin. It may affect the procedure.

Avoid driving, operating machinery, or doing anything that requires mental alertness until you know how this medicine affects you. Avoid alcohol as it may worsen dizziness or drowsiness.


What side effects may I notice from this medicine?

Side effects that you should report to your doctor or health care professional as soon as possible:

  • allergic reactions like skin rash, itching or hives, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue

  • chest pain or palpitations

  • severe dizziness or fainting

  • irregular or fast heartbeat

  • shortness of breath

Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report if they continue or are bothersome):

  • headache

  • tiredness or weakness

  • runny or stuffy nose

  • abdominal pain

  • nausea

  • back pain
