What is this medicine?
APISMART 5mg Tablet contains Apixaban, which is an oral anticoagulant (blood thinner). It belongs to the class of direct Factor Xa inhibitors. This medicine is used to prevent stroke and blood clots in people with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat). It is also used to treat deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), and to prevent recurrence of these conditions.
What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?
They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

history of bleeding in the brain (hemorrhagic stroke)

liver disease or liver problems associated with bleeding

recent surgery, especially involving the spine, brain, or eyes

How should I use this medicine?
Take this medicine by mouth with a full glass of water, with or without food, at regular intervals as prescribed. It is usually taken twice daily, but your doctor’s instructions must be followed exactly.
Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without consulting your doctor, as it may increase your risk of clot formation.
Overdosage:
If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.
What if I miss a dose?
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember.
If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose.
Do not take two doses at the same time to make up for the missed dose.
