LIPIDATOR (Atorvastatin 80 mg) is a statin (HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor). This medicine is used to lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood. It helps reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, or other heart complications in people with risk factors such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or a history of heart disease. It works by blocking an enzyme involved in the production of cholesterol in the liver.


What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?

They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

  • liver disease or abnormal liver function tests

  • kidney disease

  • thyroid disorder

  • muscle pain or weakness, or a history of muscle disorders (especially with statins)

  • alcohol use (frequent or heavy drinking)

  • low blood pressure

  • recent surgery or serious infection

  • any known allergy to atorvastatin or other statins

  • pregnant or trying to get pregnant

  • breast-feeding


How should I use this medicine?

Take this medicine by mouth with or without food, usually once daily, preferably at the same time each day. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.

Continue with a cholesterol-lowering diet and exercise plan as advised by your doctor while using this medicine.

Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact a poison control center or emergency room immediately.


What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not take double or extra doses.


What may interact with this medicine?

  • other statins (e.g., simvastatin, lovastatin)

  • fibrates (e.g., gemfibrozil, fenofibrate)

  • niacin (vitamin B3)

  • certain antibiotics (e.g., clarithromycin, erythromycin)

  • antifungals (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole)

  • HIV protease inhibitors

  • cyclosporine

  • colchicine

  • grapefruit juice (avoid large quantities)
