What is this medicine?
ASSURANS (sildenafil citrate) is a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor. This medicine is used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) and pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH)—high blood pressure in the lungs. It helps improve exercise capacity and delays worsening of the condition.
What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?
They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

heart or blood vessel disease, including heart failure or irregular heartbeat

recent history of stroke or heart attack

low or high blood pressure

liver or kidney disease

eye problems like retinitis pigmentosa or a history of vision loss

bleeding disorders

deformed penis shape, Peyronie’s disease, or conditions that may predispose to priapism

an unusual or allergic reaction to sildenafil, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives

How should I use this medicine?
Take this medicine by mouth with a glass of water. Follow the directions on the prescription label. It is usually taken 2 to 3 times a day, about 4 to 6 hours apart. Do not take more than directed. Do not stop taking this medicine without talking to your doctor.
Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.
NOTE: This medicine is only for you. Do not share this medicine with others.
What if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.
What may interact with this medicine?

Avoid using other PDE5 inhibitors while on this medicine. Limit alcohol as it may increase side effects like dizziness or fainting. Do not take this medicine with nitrate medications due to the risk of a serious drop in blood pressure.
If you experience sudden vision or hearing loss, seek medical help immediately. If you have a painful or prolonged erection lasting more than 4 hours, get medical help right away—this can cause permanent damage.
Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medicine affects you.
