What is this medicine?
AVOSTERIDE contains Dutasteride, which belongs to a class of medications called 5-alpha reductase inhibitors.
This medicine is used in men to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), commonly known as enlarged prostate. It helps to shrink the prostate, improve urinary flow, and reduce symptoms like frequent urination, difficulty in starting urination, or weak urine stream.
It is not intended for use in women or children.
What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?
They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

Liver disease or liver function problems

Difficulty urinating or complete urinary blockage

If you are undergoing PSA (prostate-specific antigen) testing

An unusual or allergic reaction to dutasteride, finasteride, or other 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors

Women who are or may become pregnant (they should avoid handling broken capsules)
How should I use this medicine?
Take this medicine by mouth, with or without food, at the same time each day.
Swallow the capsule whole with a full glass of water. Do not chew, crush, or open the capsule.
This medicine may take several months (up to 6 months) to show full effect.
Do not stop taking this medicine without your doctor’s advice.
Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much, contact a poison control center or emergency room immediately.
What if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember.
If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose.
Do not take double or extra doses.
What may interact with this medicine?

Verapamil or diltiazem (used for heart or blood pressure problems)

What should I watch for while using this medicine?

It may take months to see the full benefit of treatment. Continue taking as prescribed.

You will need regular check-ups and PSA blood tests. Dutasteride lowers PSA levels and may affect the detection of prostate cancer.

Do not donate blood while taking Avosteride and for at least 6 months after stopping, to avoid risk to pregnant women receiving your blood.

Women who are or may become pregnant should not handle broken or leaking capsules — the medicine can be absorbed through the skin and may cause birth defects in male babies.

What side effects may I notice from this medicine?
