What is this medicine?

BUDERATOR 0.5 mg Respules contain Budesonide, which is a corticosteroid. This medicine is used via nebulization to help prevent and control symptoms of asthma and other respiratory conditions, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It works by reducing inflammation in the airways, making it easier to breathe.

What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?

They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

  • active or untreated infections (e.g., tuberculosis, fungal, viral, or bacterial infections)

  • liver disease

  • history of glaucoma or cataracts

  • osteoporosis or risk of bone loss

  • a weakened immune system

  • any recent exposure to chickenpox or measles

  • any nasal, throat, or mouth infections (including thrush)

  • an unusual or allergic reaction to budesonide, other corticosteroids, or any ingredients in the respules

  • pregnant or trying to get pregnant

  • breast-feeding

How should I use this medicine?

Use this medicine with a nebulizer device. It is inhaled into the lungs as a fine mist.

  • Use exactly as prescribed by your doctor.

  • Twist open the respule and squeeze the liquid into the nebulizer chamber.

  • Use immediately after opening.

  • Do not swallow or inject the contents.

  • Rinse your mouth with water (and spit it out) after each use to reduce the risk of fungal infection (oral thrush).

  • Do not mix with other medications unless directed by your doctor.

Overdosage: If you think you have used too much of this medicine, contact a poison control center or emergency room right away.

What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not use double or extra doses.

What may interact with this medicine?

  • ketoconazole, itraconazole (antifungals)

  • ritonavir, indinavir, or other HIV protease inhibitors

  • other corticosteroids (oral or inhaled)

  • estrogen or oral contraceptives (may increase budesonide levels)

  • CYP3A4 inhibitors

This list may not describe all possible interactions. Give your health care provider a list of all the medicines, herbs, non-prescription drugs, or dietary supplements you use. Also tell them if you smoke, drink alcohol, or use illegal drugs. Some items may interact with your medicine.

What should I watch for while using this medicine?

  • Use this medicine regularly for best results. It does not relieve acute asthma attacks—use a rescue inhaler (like salbutamol) for sudden symptoms.

  • Your doctor may check your growth rate (in children) or perform periodic lung function tests.

  • Tell your doctor if your breathing problems worsen or do not improve.

  • Avoid people who are sick or have infections. Budesonide can suppress your immune system.

  • You may be more at risk for oral thrush—report any white patches in the mouth or throat.

  • Rinse your mouth thoroughly after each use.

  • Do not stop using this medicine abruptly without advice from your doctor.
