What is this medicine?

COVIMECTIN (IVERMECTIN 12 mg) is an antiparasitic medicine. It is used to treat parasitic infections such as intestinal strongyloidiasis (roundworm), onchocerciasis (river blindness), scabies, and other worm infestations. It works by paralyzing and killing parasites, thus clearing the infection from the body.


What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?

They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

  • liver disease

  • immune system disorders

  • asthma or other respiratory conditions

  • seizure disorders or epilepsy

  • Loa loa infection (eye worm)

  • an unusual or allergic reaction to ivermectin, other medications, foods, dyes, or preservatives

  • pregnant or trying to get pregnant

  • breast-feeding


How should I use this medicine?

Take this medicine by mouth with a full glass of water on an empty stomach (at least 1 hour before a meal). It is usually taken as a single dose or as directed by your doctor.

Take your dose at regular intervals only if advised. Do not take your medicine more often than directed. Do not stop taking this medicine without consulting your doctor or healthcare provider.

Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.


What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose. Do not take double or extra doses unless directed.


What may interact with this medicine?

  • warfarin or other blood thinners

  • medications that affect the immune system

  • barbiturates or benzodiazepines (may increase drowsiness)

  • anti-seizure medications

  • alcohol (may increase risk of side effects)

What should I watch for while using this medicine?

If you are being treated for onchocerciasis (river blindness), you may experience a reaction to the dying parasites, including fever, skin rash, swollen lymph nodes, joint or muscle pain, or eye symptoms. Inform your doctor if any of these occur or worsen.

Avoid alcohol during treatment as it may worsen side effects such as dizziness or drowsiness.

This medicine can make you dizzy or drowsy. Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that requires mental alertness until you understand how this medicine affects you.

Women should inform their doctor if they are planning to become pregnant or are breastfeeding.


What side effects may I notice from this medicine?

Side effects that you should report to your doctor or health care professional as soon as possible:

  • allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling of face/lips/tongue/throat)

  • difficulty breathing or swallowing

  • chest pain or fast heartbeat

  • confusion or hallucinations

  • vision changes

  • seizures

Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report if persistent or bothersome):

  • headache

  • dizziness

  • nausea or vomiting

  • diarrhea

  • fatigue

  • mild rash or itching

  • muscle pain or joint discomfort
