What is this medicine?
AZITHROMYCIN is a macrolide antibiotic. This medicine is used to treat certain bacterial infections such as respiratory tract infections (like bronchitis and pneumonia), skin infections, ear infections, and sexually transmitted infections. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria.
This medicine will not treat viral infections like the common cold or flu.
What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?
They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

Kidney or liver disease

History of heart rhythm problems (including QT prolongation)

Myasthenia gravis

Low levels of potassium or magnesium in the blood

Any history of jaundice or liver problems while taking azithromycin

An unusual or allergic reaction to azithromycin, erythromycin, clarithromycin, other macrolide antibiotics, foods, dyes, or preservatives

Pregnant or trying to get pregnant

How should I use this medicine?
Take this medicine by mouth with a full glass of water. It can be taken with or without food, but taking it with food may reduce stomach upset. Follow the dosing schedule provided by your doctor carefully.
Do not take your medicine more often than directed. Complete the full course of medication, even if you feel better. Do not stop taking it except on the advice of your doctor or health care professional.
Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.
What if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose.
Do not take double or extra doses.
What may interact with this medicine?

Antacids containing aluminum or magnesium (they can reduce absorption — take at least 2 hours apart)

You may feel dizzy. Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how the medicine affects you.
