DAPASMART 10 mg Tablet contains Dapagliflozin, which is a SGLT2 inhibitor (Sodium-Glucose Co-Transporter 2 inhibitor). This medicine is used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus by helping your kidneys remove glucose from your blood via urine. It may also be prescribed for patients with heart failure or chronic kidney disease, as it helps reduce the risk of hospitalization and slows disease progression.


What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?

They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

  • Type 1 diabetes

  • History of diabetic ketoacidosis

  • Kidney disease or on dialysis

  • Liver problems

  • Low blood pressure or dehydration

  • Frequent urinary tract or genital infections

  • Pancreatitis or a history of it

  • Alcohol abuse or frequent consumption

  • Allergy to dapagliflozin or any other ingredients in the tablet

  • Pregnant or trying to become pregnant

  • Breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed


How should I use this medicine?

Take this medicine by mouth, usually once daily, with or without food. Swallow it with a glass of water at the same time each day.

Do not take more than the prescribed dose. Do not stop this medicine without consulting your doctor.

Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact a poison control center or go to an emergency room immediately.


What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it’s close to your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not take double or extra doses.


What may interact with this medicine?

  • Insulin or drugs that increase insulin release (e.g., glimepiride, glipizide)

  • Diuretics (water pills), which may increase dehydration risk

  • Medicines that affect kidney function (e.g., NSAIDs)

  • Lithium

  • Rifampin, phenytoin, or other enzyme inducers

  • Herbal supplements and over-the-counter medications

What should I watch for while using this medicine?

  • Watch for signs of urinary tract infections or genital infections, such as burning, itching, or abnormal discharge.

  • Be alert for signs of ketoacidosis (nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, confusion, tiredness, deep breathing). This can happen even with normal blood sugar.

  • Report dizziness or fainting—especially if you stand up quickly.

  • Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should talk to their doctor immediately.

  • Stop the medicine and contact your doctor if you experience pain, redness, or swelling in the genital area (especially in males), which may indicate a rare infection called Fournier’s gangrene.


What side effects may I notice from this medicine?

Report these side effects to your doctor as soon as possible:

  • Allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling of the face, tongue, or throat)

  • Pain or burning during urination

  • Unusual vaginal discharge or irritation

  • Increased thirst or urination

  • Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain

  • Signs of ketoacidosis (nausea, fruity breath, confusion)

  • Genital area pain, redness, or swelling

  • Dizziness or low blood pressure, especially when standing

Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (but notify your doctor if persistent or bothersome):

  • Mild headache

  • Back pain

  • Increased urination

  • Mild genital irritation

  • Constipation
