DAPASMART 5 mg Tablet contains Dapagliflozin, which belongs to a class of medicines known as SGLT2 inhibitors (Sodium-Glucose Co-Transporter 2 inhibitors). It is used to help manage type 2 diabetes mellitus by lowering blood sugar levels. It works by helping the kidneys remove excess glucose through urine. It may also be used in heart failure and chronic kidney disease to improve outcomes and reduce hospitalizations.


What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?

They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

  • Type 1 diabetes

  • History of diabetic ketoacidosis

  • Kidney disease or on dialysis

  • Liver disease

  • Low blood pressure

  • Frequent urinary tract infections or genital infections

  • Dehydration or prone to fluid loss

  • Pancreatic disorders

  • If you consume alcohol regularly

  • Allergic reaction to dapagliflozin or similar drugs

  • Pregnant or trying to become pregnant

  • Breast-feeding


How should I use this medicine?

Take this medicine by mouth with a glass of water. It is usually taken once a day, with or without food.

Take your doses at regular intervals. Do not take your medicine more often than directed. Do not stop taking this medicine without your doctor’s advice.

Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.


What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not take double or extra doses.


What may interact with this medicine?

  • Insulin or sulfonylureas (e.g., glimepiride, glipizide)

  • Diuretics (water pills)

  • Blood pressure medications

What side effects may I notice from this medicine?

Side effects to report to your doctor immediately:

  • Allergic reactions: rash, hives, swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat

  • Signs of urinary tract infection (burning sensation, fever, back pain)

  • Genital infections (itching, odor, discharge, redness or swelling)

  • Symptoms of ketoacidosis (nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, deep breathing, confusion, unusual tiredness)

  • Dehydration signs (dry mouth, dizziness, fast heartbeat)

  • Reduced urination or signs of kidney problems

Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (but report if persistent or bothersome):

  • Increased urination

  • Thirst

  • Back pain

  • Mild headache

  • Genital itching or irritation

Where should I keep my medicine?
