What is this medicine?
DOXYLIFE-100 LB contains Doxycycline 100 mg (a tetracycline-class antibiotic) and Lactic Acid Bacillus (a probiotic). This medicine is used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections, including those of the respiratory tract, urinary tract, skin, and sexually transmitted infections. The lactic acid bacillus helps maintain normal gut flora and reduce antibiotic-associated diarrhea.


What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?
They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

  • liver disease

  • kidney problems

  • difficulty swallowing

  • history of esophageal disorders

  • myasthenia gravis

  • lupus (systemic lupus erythematosus)

  • if you have had a yeast or fungal infection recently

  • if you are taking medications that affect your immune system

  • if you have a history of intracranial hypertension (high pressure inside the skull)

  • an unusual or allergic reaction to doxycycline, tetracycline antibiotics, dairy products, lactic acid bacillus, or any other medications, foods, dyes, or preservatives

  • pregnant or trying to get pregnant

  • breast-feeding


How should I use this medicine?
Take this medicine by mouth with a full glass of water (at least 240 mL). Do not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking it to prevent irritation of the esophagus. Take with food if stomach upset occurs, but avoid taking it with dairy products as they may reduce absorption of doxycycline.

Take your doses at regular intervals. Do not take your medicine more often than directed. Complete the full course of the medicine even if you feel better.

Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.


What if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.


What may interact with this medicine?

  • antacids containing aluminum, magnesium, or calcium

  • bismuth subsalicylate

  • iron supplements or multivitamins containing iron or zinc

  • oral contraceptives (may reduce effectiveness)

  • penicillin antibiotics

  • warfarin or other blood thinners

  • isotretinoin or acitretin

  • seizure medications like phenytoin, carbamazepine, or barbiturates

What should I watch for while using this medicine?
Visit your doctor or health care professional for regular check-ups.

Tell your doctor if your symptoms do not improve or get worse. Avoid prolonged sun exposure, as doxycycline may make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing outdoors.

Women should use non-hormonal methods of contraception while on this medicine, as doxycycline may reduce the effectiveness of hormonal birth control.

Avoid taking antacids, iron, or calcium supplements within 2 hours before or after taking this medicine.

Probiotic use (Lactic acid bacillus) may help maintain healthy gut flora during antibiotic treatment but inform your doctor if you develop persistent diarrhea or signs of fungal infections.

Do not give this medicine to children under 8 years of age unless specifically directed, as it may cause permanent tooth discoloration.


What side effects may I notice from this medicine?
Side effects that you should report to your doctor or health care professional as soon as possible:

  • severe allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling, especially of the face/tongue/throat, severe dizziness, trouble breathing)

  • difficulty swallowing or severe throat irritation

  • persistent headache or vision changes (possible signs of increased intracranial pressure)

  • severe abdominal pain or persistent diarrhea

  • yellowing of the eyes or skin (signs of liver problems)

  • dark urine

  • signs of a yeast infection (white patches in the mouth or vaginal discharge/itching)

Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report if persistent or bothersome):

  • nausea or vomiting

  • mild abdominal discomfort

  • diarrhea

  • skin sensitivity to sunlight

  • loss of appetite

Where should I keep my medicine?
Keep out of the reach of children.

Store at room temperature between 20 and 25°C (68 and 77°F). Protect from light, heat, and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.
