What is this medicine?

FINOBRATE 145 mg contains Fenofibrate, a medication that belongs to the class of drugs known as fibrates. This medicine is used to reduce levels of “bad” cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides while increasing “good” cholesterol (HDL) in the blood. It is used in patients with hyperlipidemia or hypertriglyceridemia to help prevent pancreatitis and lower the risk of cardiovascular disease.


What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?

They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

  • Liver disease or abnormal liver function tests

  • Kidney disease

  • Gallbladder disease or gallstones

  • Pancreatitis

  • Hypothyroidism

  • Diabetes (especially if poorly controlled)

  • A history of blood clots or clotting disorders

  • An unusual or allergic reaction to fenofibrate, other fibrates, or any other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives

  • Pregnant or trying to get pregnant

  • Breast-feeding


How should I use this medicine?

Take this medicine by mouth with a glass of water, usually once daily, with food, unless otherwise directed by your doctor. Take it at the same time each day to help you remember.

Do not take more often than prescribed. Do not stop taking this medicine unless advised by your doctor or health care provider.

Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact a poison control center or go to the emergency room right away.


What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.


What may interact with this medicine?

  • Blood thinners like warfarin

  • Statins (e.g., atorvastatin, simvastatin)

  • Cyclosporine

  • Diabetes medicines (e.g., glimepiride, insulin)

  • Bile acid sequestrants (e.g., cholestyramine)

  • Other cholesterol-lowering drugs

  • Immunosuppressants

  • Estrogens or oral contraceptives

What should I watch for while using this medicine?

  • Your doctor will order blood tests regularly to check your liver function, kidney function, and lipid levels.

  • Report any signs of muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness, especially if accompanied by fever or malaise. This could indicate a serious muscle problem (rhabdomyolysis), particularly when used with statins.

  • Report unusual fatigue, abdominal pain, nausea, or yellowing of the skin or eyes, which may indicate liver issues.

  • Inform your doctor if you notice urine darkening or light-colored stools.

  • Maintain a low-cholesterol, low-fat diet and exercise regularly as advised.

  • Limit or avoid alcohol, as it can increase triglyceride levels and cause liver damage.


What side effects may I notice from this medicine?

Side effects that you should report to your doctor or health care professional as soon as possible:

  • Muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness

  • Fever and flu-like symptoms

  • Severe stomach pain, nausea, or vomiting

  • Yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice)

  • Dark urine or pale stools

  • Chest pain

  • Signs of gallstones (pain in upper right abdomen)

  • Allergic reactions: rash, itching, swelling, difficulty breathing

Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report if they continue or are bothersome):

  • Headache

  • Mild stomach discomfort

  • Back pain

  • Runny or stuffy nose

  • Increased sensitivity to sunlight

Where should I keep my medicine?
