What is this medicine?

GLIMITH-3 Tablet is a combination antidiabetic medicine used to control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It contains three active ingredients:

  • Glimepiride – a sulfonylurea that increases insulin secretion from the pancreas

  • Metformin – a biguanide that decreases glucose production in the liver and improves insulin sensitivity

  • Pioglitazone – a thiazolidinedione that improves insulin sensitivity in muscle and fat cells

This medicine helps improve glycemic control when diet, exercise, and monotherapy are not sufficient.


What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?

They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

  • Kidney or liver disease

  • Heart failure or heart disease

  • Bladder cancer (current or past)

  • History of lactic acidosis

  • Vision problems due to diabetes (diabetic retinopathy or macular edema)

  • Underactive adrenal or pituitary glands

  • Alcohol use or abuse

  • If you are going to have surgery or radiologic studies involving contrast agents

  • Any allergies to sulfonylureas, pioglitazone, metformin, or similar drugs

  • Pregnant or trying to get pregnant

How should I use this medicine?

Take this medicine by mouth, usually once daily with food, or as directed by your doctor. Taking it with food helps reduce stomach upset.

Take your doses at regular intervals. Do not take your medicine more often than directed. Do not stop taking this medicine unless advised by your doctor.

Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact a poison control center or emergency room immediately, especially if symptoms of low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion) appear.


What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not take double or extra doses.


What may interact with this medicine?

  • Alcohol (may increase risk of lactic acidosis or low blood sugar)

  • Diuretics (water pills)

  • Beta-blockers (can mask symptoms of low blood sugar)

  • NSAIDs (like ibuprofen or naproxen)

  • Steroids (such as prednisone)

  • Thyroid medicines

  • Oral contraceptives

  • Antifungals like ketoconazole

  • Other diabetes medications (insulin or sulfonylureas)

What should I watch for while using this medicine?

  • Be aware of signs of lactic acidosis: muscle pain, difficulty breathing, unusual sleepiness, stomach pain – this is rare but serious.

  • Tell your doctor if you have any signs of heart failure like swelling, breathlessness, or sudden weight gain.

  • Inform any healthcare provider treating you that you are taking this medication, especially before surgeries or imaging tests involving contrast dye.

  • Women using this medicine may have resumed ovulation, increasing the chance of pregnancy. Use appropriate contraception.

  • Avoid alcohol while taking this medicine.

  • Stay well-hydrated and avoid dehydration.


What side effects may I notice from this medicine?

Side effects that you should report to your doctor or health care professional as soon as possible:

  • Signs of allergic reaction: rash, itching, swelling of the face/lips/throat, difficulty breathing

  • Unusual fatigue or muscle pain

  • Severe abdominal pain

  • Rapid breathing or shortness of breath

  • Yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice)

  • Dark urine

  • Swelling in legs or rapid weight gain

  • Visual changes

  • Blood in urine or painful urination

  • Confusion, drowsiness (possible severe low blood sugar)

  • Nausea or vomiting

  • Diarrhea

  • Headache

  • Mild weight gain
