What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?

They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

  • bipolar disorder or mania

  • epilepsy or history of seizures

  • glaucoma

  • heart disease or recent heart attack

  • liver disease

  • kidney problems

  • problems with urination due to prostate issues

  • history of suicidal thoughts or behavior

  • Parkinson’s disease

  • any known blood disorders

  • an unusual or allergic reaction to flupentixol, melitracen, other antidepressants, antipsychotics, foods, dyes, or preservatives

  • pregnant or trying to get pregnant

  • breast-feeding


How should I use this medicine?

Take this medicine by mouth with a glass of water. Take your doses at regular intervals, preferably at the same time each day. Do not take your medicine more often than directed. Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without your doctor’s advice.

Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.


What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.


What may interact with this medicine?

  • other antidepressants (SSRIs, MAOIs, TCAs)

  • antipsychotic medications

  • medicines for epilepsy

  • medications for Parkinson’s disease

  • sleep aids or sedatives

  • alcohol

  • antihistamines

  • medicines for high blood pressure

  • thyroid medications

What should I watch for while using this medicine?

Let your doctor know immediately if you experience:

  • worsening depression or suicidal thoughts

  • sudden mood swings

  • any unusual changes in behavior

Avoid drinking alcohol while taking this medicine as it can increase drowsiness and dizziness.

You may feel dizzy or drowsy. Do not drive, operate machinery, or perform tasks requiring alertness until you know how this medicine affects you.

Avoid stopping this medication suddenly. Your doctor may reduce your dose gradually to avoid withdrawal symptoms.
