What is this medicine?

IVERHEAL 6 mg (IVERMECTIN) is an antiparasitic medication. It is used to treat several parasitic infections such as intestinal strongyloidiasis (roundworm infection) and onchocerciasis (river blindness). It is also used off-label for conditions like scabies and lice. Ivermectin works by paralyzing and killing parasites, helping the body eliminate the infection.


What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?

They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

  • liver disease or hepatitis

  • asthma or breathing disorders

  • immune system problems

  • seizure disorders or history of seizures

  • Loa loa (eye worm) infection

  • weakened immune system (e.g., HIV/AIDS)

  • an unusual or allergic reaction to ivermectin, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives

  • pregnant or trying to get pregnant

  • breast-feeding


How should I use this medicine?

Take this medicine by mouth with a full glass of water. It is best taken on an empty stomach, ideally 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal.

Take your doses at regular intervals. Do not take your medicine more often than directed. Continue taking it for the full prescribed time, even if you feel better.

Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.


What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.


What may interact with this medicine?

  • warfarin or other blood thinners

  • barbiturates

  • benzodiazepines (e.g., diazepam, lorazepam)

  • valproic acid or other seizure medications

  • other antiparasitic drugs

  • alcohol

If you are being treated for onchocerciasis, some symptoms like itching, rash, or joint pain may worsen temporarily due to dying parasites. Contact your doctor if these reactions are severe.

Avoid drinking alcohol while taking this medicine, as it may increase side effects like dizziness or drowsiness.

This medicine may make you drowsy or dizzy. Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that requires alertness until you know how this medicine affects you.

Women should inform their doctor if they are or plan to become pregnant. Use during pregnancy should be only if clearly needed.
