What is this medicine?

IVERHUMAN 12 mg contains ivermectin, an anti-parasitic medicine. It is used to treat infections caused by certain parasites such as intestinal strongyloidiasis and onchocerciasis (river blindness). It may also be used to treat scabies, head lice, and other parasitic infections as prescribed. In some cases, it is used off-label for other parasitic infestations in humans.


What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?

They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

  • liver disease or hepatitis

  • asthma or other breathing disorders

  • immune system problems (e.g., HIV/AIDS)

  • seizure disorder or history of seizures

  • Loa loa infection (a type of African eye worm)

  • an unusual or allergic reaction to ivermectin, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives

  • pregnant or trying to get pregnant

  • breast-feeding


How should I use this medicine?

Take this medicine by mouth with a full glass of water on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals. Take your dose as a single dose or as directed by your doctor. Do not take your medicine more often than directed.

Do not stop taking this medicine except on the advice of your doctor or health care provider.

Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.


What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses unless advised by your doctor.


What may interact with this medicine?

  • warfarin or other blood thinners

  • other medicines that suppress the immune system

  • medicines that affect liver enzymes (e.g., some antibiotics, antifungals, or anticonvulsants)

  • alcohol or drugs that cause drowsiness

This list may not describe all possible interactions. Give your health care provider a list of all the medicines, herbs, non-prescription drugs, or dietary supplements you use. Also, tell them if you smoke, drink alcohol, or use recreational drugs.


What should I watch for while using this medicine?

Visit your doctor or health care professional for regular checks, especially if you are taking the medicine for a serious parasitic infection. Symptoms may get worse temporarily after starting the medicine (known as Mazzotti reaction)—watch for fever, skin rash, muscle or joint pain, and swollen lymph nodes.

Use caution when getting up from a lying or sitting position to prevent dizziness or fainting. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how the medicine affects you.

Drink plenty of fluids unless otherwise directed. Follow good hygiene practices to prevent re-infection or spreading of parasites.

Tell your doctor if you experience vision changes, confusion, severe dizziness, or worsening skin conditions.


What side effects may I notice from this medicine?

Side effects that you should report to your doctor or health care professional as soon as possible:

  • allergic reactions like rash, itching or hives, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue

  • vision changes

  • severe dizziness or lightheadedness

  • seizures

  • confusion or balance problems

  • fever, rash, swollen glands (especially after treatment for river blindness)

  • rapid heartbeat

Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report if persistent or bothersome):

  • headache

  • nausea or diarrhea

  • dizziness

  • fatigue or sleepiness

  • mild skin rash or itching

  • muscle aches

Where should I keep my medicine?

Keep out of the reach of children.

Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F). Keep the container tightly closed and protect from moisture.

Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.
