What is this medicine?

IVERLAST (IVERMECTIN 6 mg) is an antiparasitic medicine. It is used to treat certain parasitic infections such as intestinal strongyloidiasis and onchocerciasis (river blindness). It may also be used off-label to treat scabies, lice, and other parasitic infestations. Ivermectin works by paralyzing and killing the parasites.


What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?

They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

  • liver disease or hepatitis

  • asthma or other breathing problems

  • seizure disorders or history of seizures

  • Loa loa (eye worm) infection

  • weakened immune system (such as from HIV/AIDS)

  • an unusual or allergic reaction to ivermectin, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives

  • pregnant or trying to get pregnant

  • breast-feeding


How should I use this medicine?

Take this medicine by mouth with a full glass of water. It is usually taken on an empty stomach (at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals). Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully.

Take your doses at regular intervals. Do not take more than prescribed. Do not stop taking this medicine unless directed by your doctor or health care professional.

Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact a poison control center or emergency room immediately.


What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.


What may interact with this medicine?

  • warfarin or other blood thinners

  • barbiturates (e.g., phenobarbital)

  • benzodiazepines (e.g., diazepam, lorazepam)

  • valproic acid

  • other antiparasitic medications

  • alcohol

This list may not describe all possible interactions. Give your health care provider a full list of all the medicines, herbs, non-prescription drugs, or dietary supplements you use. Also tell them if you smoke, drink alcohol, or use recreational drugs.


What should I watch for while using this medicine?

Visit your doctor or health care professional for regular checkups.

If you are being treated for onchocerciasis, you may experience temporary side effects (such as fever, itching, skin rash, or joint pain) due to the death of the parasites. This is known as the Mazzotti reaction and should be reported to your doctor.

Avoid alcohol as it may increase the risk of dizziness or drowsiness.

Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything that requires mental alertness until you know how this medicine affects you. Move slowly when going from sitting or lying to standing, especially if you are an older adult.

Women should tell their doctor if they are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Ivermectin is not recommended during pregnancy unless clearly needed.


What side effects may I notice from this medicine?

Side effects that you should report to your doctor or health care professional as soon as possible:

  • allergic reactions like rash, itching, swelling (especially of the face, lips, tongue, or throat)

  • chest pain

  • difficulty breathing or swallowing

  • dizziness or fainting spells

  • seizures

  • confusion or trouble walking

  • vision changes

Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report if they persist or are bothersome):

  • headache

  • nausea or vomiting

  • diarrhea

  • muscle or joint pain

  • fatigue or weakness

  • dizziness

  • mild skin rash or itching

Where should I keep my medicine?

Keep out of the reach of children.

Store at room temperature between 20 and 25 degrees C (68 and 77 degrees F). Protect from light and moisture. Keep in original packaging.
