What is this medicine?

IVERSUN 12 mg (IVERMECTIN) is an antiparasitic medication. It is used to treat a variety of parasitic infections such as intestinal strongyloidiasis, onchocerciasis (river blindness), scabies, head lice, and other worm infections. It works by paralyzing and killing parasites, helping your body eliminate them.


What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?

They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

  • liver disease or hepatitis

  • immune system problems

  • asthma or other breathing problems

  • seizure disorders or history of seizures

  • Loa loa (eye worm) infection

  • an unusual or allergic reaction to ivermectin, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives

  • pregnant or trying to get pregnant

  • breast-feeding


How should I use this medicine?

Take this medicine by mouth with a full glass of water. It is best taken on an empty stomach, usually 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. Follow your doctor’s instructions closely.

Take your doses at regular intervals. Do not take your medicine more often than directed. Do not stop using this medicine unless directed by your doctor.

Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact a poison control center or emergency room right away.


What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.


What may interact with this medicine?

  • warfarin or other blood thinners

  • barbiturates

  • benzodiazepines

  • valproic acid or other seizure medicines

  • other antiparasitic or anthelmintic drugs

  • alcohol (may increase side effects)

What should I watch for while using this medicine?

Visit your doctor or health care professional for regular follow-ups. You may need lab tests (like stool exams or blood tests) to check that the infection has cleared.

If you are being treated for onchocerciasis, you may experience reactions caused by the dying parasites, such as fever, skin rash, muscle or joint pain, swollen lymph nodes, or eye discomfort. Tell your doctor if these become severe.

Avoid drinking alcohol while taking this medicine, as it may increase the risk of dizziness and drowsiness.

This medicine may make you drowsy or dizzy. Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that requires mental alertness until you know how this medicine affects you.

Women should inform their doctor if they become or plan to become pregnant. Use only if clearly needed during pregnancy.


What side effects may I notice from this medicine?

Side effects that you should report to your doctor or health care professional as soon as possible:

  • allergic reactions like skin rash, hives, itching, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat

  • difficulty breathing or swallowing
