LIPIDATOR 40 mg contains Atorvastatin, which is a statin (HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor). This medicine is used to lower bad cholesterol (LDL), raise good cholesterol (HDL), and reduce triglyceride levels in the blood. It is also used to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, and other heart-related complications, especially in patients with risk factors such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or family history of heart disease.


What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?

They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

  • liver disease or abnormal liver function

  • kidney disease

  • history of alcohol use

  • thyroid problems

  • muscle problems or a family history of muscle disorders

  • if you are taking other cholesterol-lowering drugs

  • an unusual or allergic reaction to atorvastatin, other statins, or any other substances

  • pregnant or trying to get pregnant

  • breast-feeding


How should I use this medicine?

Take this medicine by mouth with a glass of water. You can take it with or without food, but try to take it at the same time each day.

Do not take more than the prescribed dose. Continue taking it even if you feel well—cholesterol levels may not show symptoms.

Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact a poison control center or emergency room immediately.


What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.


What may interact with this medicine?

  • other cholesterol-lowering medicines (e.g., gemfibrozil, fenofibrate, niacin)

  • certain antibiotics (e.g., erythromycin, clarithromycin)

  • antifungals (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole)

  • HIV protease inhibitors (e.g., ritonavir)

  • hepatitis C antivirals (e.g., glecaprevir/pibrentasvir)

  • cyclosporine

  • digoxin

  • warfarin or other blood thinners

  • oral contraceptives

  • large amounts of grapefruit or grapefruit juice

What should I watch for while using this medicine?

  • Visit your doctor regularly for cholesterol tests and liver function monitoring.

  • Report muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness, especially if accompanied by fever or fatigue. These could be signs of serious muscle problems (rhabdomyolysis).

  • Avoid alcohol, as it may increase the risk of liver problems.

  • Do not use this medicine if pregnant or breastfeeding. Stop the medicine and inform your doctor immediately if you become pregnant.

  • Maintain a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet and follow your doctor’s exercise recommendations.

  • Avoid large amounts of grapefruit juice, which may interfere with this medicine.


What side effects may I notice from this medicine?

Serious side effects to report to your doctor immediately:

  • unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness

  • yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice)

  • dark-colored urine

  • severe fatigue

  • allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling of face/lips/tongue/throat)

  • difficulty breathing

  • chest pain

Less serious side effects (report if persistent or bothersome):

  • mild muscle pain

  • headache

  • nausea or stomach discomfort

  • diarrhea or constipation

  • joint pain

  • trouble sleeping
