It works by killing or stopping the growth of bacteria. It is used in hospitals for severe infections, particularly when other antibiotics are ineffective.

  • brain disorders or seizures (e.g., epilepsy)

  • colitis or other gastrointestinal disorders

  • kidney disease

  • an unusual or allergic reaction to meropenem, other antibiotics, foods, dyes, or preservatives

How should I use this medicine?

This medicine is given as an injection into a vein (IV) by a healthcare professional in a hospital or clinical setting. It is usually given every 8 hours or as directed by your doctor. The dose depends on your medical condition, kidney function, and response to treatment.

Overdosage: In case of suspected overdose, notify medical personnel immediately. Overdose may cause seizures or confusion.


What if I miss a dose?

This medication is usually administered by a healthcare provider, so missing a dose is unlikely. If you are using it at home and miss a dose, contact your doctor or pharmacist right away for instructions.


What may interact with this medicine?

  • probenecid

  • valproic acid or divalproex sodium (used for seizures)

  • other antibiotics (e.g., ganciclovir)

  • diuretics such as furosemide

  • blood thinners (anticoagulants)

Where should I keep my medicine?
