What is this medicine?
MINOXIBOON (Minoxidil 10 mg) is a vasodilator. It’s used to treat severe high blood pressure (hypertension) when other medications haven’t worked well. It works by dilating blood vessels, easing blood flow. It may also – though rarely in tablet form – help with hair growth, but that use typically applies to topical formulations.

What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?
Tell them if you have any of these conditions:

  • Congestive heart failure or existing heart disease

  • History of heart attack

  • Kidney disease or on dialysis

  • Pheochromocytoma (a type of adrenal gland tumor)

  • Edema or fluid retention issues

  • Allergies to minoxidil, other medications, dyes, or preservatives

  • Pregnant or planning pregnancy

  • Breast-feeding

How should I use this medicine?

  • Take by mouth with a full glass of water, usually once daily, or as directed by your physician.

  • It’s typically prescribed along with a diuretic (water pill) and often a beta-blocker to help reduce side effects such as fluid retention and increased heart rate.

  • Overdosage: If you suspect an overdose, seek immediate medical help or contact poison control.

What if I miss a dose?
Take it as soon as you remember unless it’s nearly time for your next scheduled dose. If so, skip the missed dose—do not take extra to catch up.

What may interact with this medicine?

  • Other blood pressure-lowering drugs

  • Guanethidine (may cause severe hypotension together)

  • Diuretics and beta-blockers (commonly prescribed with minoxidil)

  • NSAIDs, like ibuprofen or naproxen (can reduce its effects)

  • Any drugs affecting fluid or electrolyte balance

Always provide your healthcare provider a complete list of all prescription, OTC medications, supplements, and herbal products you use.

What should I watch for while using this medicine?

  • Have regular follow-up visits to monitor blood pressure, heart, and kidney function.

  • Weigh yourself daily: a sudden gain (e.g., 5 lb/2 kg in a few days) may signal fluid buildup or heart strain.

  • Report chest pain, rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath, or fainting promptly.

  • Avoid sudden discontinuation of the medication without consulting your doctor.

  • Avoid alcohol until you see how minoxidil affects you—it can cause further lowering of blood pressure.

What side effects may I notice from this medicine?
Report immediately:

  • Chest pain, fast or irregular heartbeat

  • Swelling of feet, ankles, legs (could indicate fluid overloading)

  • Shortness of breath or unexplained weight gain

  • Signs of allergic reaction: skin rash, itching, swelling (face, lips, tongue), severe dizziness, trouble breathing

  • Episodes of fainting or pronounced dizziness

Usually mild (tell your doctor if they bother you):

  • Increased body hair (e.g., on face or arms)

  • Headache

  • Nausea

This may not include all potential side effects. Consult your doctor for medical advice on side effects.

  • Store at room temperature (20–25 °C / 68–77 °F).

  • Keep it dry, away from heat and direct light.

  • Keep out of reach of children.

  • Dispose of after the expiration date.
