What is this medicine?

MOMENTA 10 Tablet contains Montelukast Sodium 10 mg, which is a leukotriene receptor antagonist. This medicine is used to prevent and manage asthma symptoms, and to relieve symptoms of seasonal allergies (hay fever) or perennial allergic rhinitis. It works by blocking substances called leukotrienes that cause narrowing and inflammation in the airways and contribute to allergy symptoms.


What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?

They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

  • Liver disease

  • Phenylketonuria (if taking chewable forms containing phenylalanine)

  • Mental health conditions like depression or suicidal thoughts

  • Seizure disorders

  • An unusual or allergic reaction to montelukast, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives

  • Pregnant or trying to get pregnant

  • Breast-feeding


How should I use this medicine?

Take this medicine by mouth with a glass of water, with or without food. It is usually taken once daily in the evening, or as directed by your doctor.

Take your doses at regular intervals. Do not take your medicine more often than directed. Do not stop taking this medicine without your doctor’s advice, even if you feel better.

Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.


What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.


What may interact with this medicine?

  • Phenobarbital

  • Phenytoin

  • Rifampin

  • Gemfibrozil

What should I watch for while using this medicine?

  • This medicine is not for the relief of acute asthma attacks. Always have a rescue inhaler available and use it as prescribed.

  • Let your doctor know if your asthma symptoms worsen or if you need to use your rescue inhaler more often than usual.

  • Montelukast has been linked to changes in mood or behavior, including agitation, aggression, hallucinations, depression, and suicidal thoughts. Tell your doctor right away if you or your child notice unusual behavior or mood changes.

  • Continue using all asthma medications as prescribed unless your doctor tells you to stop.

  • Let your doctor know if your allergy symptoms do not improve or get worse after starting this medicine.


What side effects may I notice from this medicine?

Side effects that you should report to your doctor or health care professional as soon as possible:

  • Allergic reactions like rash, itching, swelling of face/lips/tongue

  • Mood or behavior changes (e.g., depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts)

  • Hallucinations or agitation

  • Numbness or tingling in arms or legs

  • Sinus pain or swelling

  • Yellowing of skin or eyes (signs of liver problems)

Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your doctor if they continue or are bothersome):

  • Headache

  • Stomach pain

  • Tiredness

  • Cough

  • Diarrhea

  • Fever

  • Sore throat

  • Tooth pain

Where should I keep my medicine?

  • Keep out of the reach of children.

  • Store at room temperature between 20 and 25 degrees C (68 and 77 degrees F).

  • Protect from moisture and light.

  • Do not use after the expiration date.

  • Do not flush unused medicines down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed.
