What is this medicine?
MONTEL (Montelukast 10 mg) is a leukotriene receptor antagonist. This medicine is used to prevent and control asthma symptoms such as wheezing and shortness of breath, and to relieve symptoms of seasonal allergies like sneezing, runny nose, and nasal congestion. It works by blocking leukotrienes, substances in the body that cause asthma and allergy symptoms.
What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?
They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts

phenylketonuria (PKU) – check if the formulation contains phenylalanine

any known allergy to montelukast or any other ingredients

How should I use this medicine?
Take this medicine by mouth, usually once daily in the evening, with or without food. Take it at the same time each day for best results.
Do not use this medicine to treat an acute asthma attack—use a rescue inhaler as prescribed.
Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact a poison control center or emergency room immediately.
What if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take only the next scheduled dose. Do not take double or extra doses.

Monitor for any mood or behavioral changes such as anxiety, irritability, agitation, hallucinations, or suicidal thoughts.

Report flu-like symptoms, numbness, tingling, or rash, which could indicate a rare side effect called Churg-Strauss syndrome.

Continue taking other prescribed asthma or allergy medications unless advised otherwise by your doctor.
