SHYTOMEL (Liothyronine Sodium 25 mcg) is a synthetic form of the thyroid hormone triiodothyronine (T3). It is used to treat hypothyroidism (low thyroid hormone levels), certain types of goiter, and sometimes as part of a test for thyroid function. It may also be used in the treatment of thyroid cancer or myxedema coma.

They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

  • Heart disease (such as angina, arrhythmia, heart attack)

How should I use this medicine?

Take this medicine by mouth with a glass of water. It is best taken on an empty stomach, typically 30 minutes before breakfast. Take your doses at regular intervals—at the same time each day. Do not take more or less than directed.

Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.


What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.
