SILDASAFE 100 mg contains Sildenafil Citrate, which belongs to a class of medicines known as phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. It is used to treat erectile dysfunction (impotence) in men by increasing blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation. This helps to achieve and maintain an erection. It may also be prescribed for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) under a different brand or dose.


What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?

They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

  • heart disease, history of heart attack, irregular heartbeat, or chest pain

  • low or high blood pressure

  • stroke

  • liver or kidney disease

  • bleeding disorders or stomach ulcers

  • physical deformity of the penis (e.g., Peyronie’s disease)

  • eye problems, especially a rare inherited eye disease (retinitis pigmentosa)

  • history of vision loss due to non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION)

  • blood cell disorders (e.g., sickle cell anemia, leukemia)

  • an unusual or allergic reaction to sildenafil, other PDE5 inhibitors (like tadalafil, vardenafil), or any ingredients in the tablet

  • pregnant or trying to get pregnant (though it’s not typically used in women)

  • breast-feeding


How should I use this medicine?

Take this medicine by mouth with a glass of water, approximately 30 to 60 minutes before sexual activity. Do not take more than once in 24 hours. The effect may be delayed if taken with a high-fat meal.

  • Follow the dosage exactly as prescribed.

  • Sexual stimulation is required for the medicine to work.

  • Do not take with other medicines for erectile dysfunction unless directed by your doctor.

Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact a poison control center or emergency room right away.


What if I miss a dose?

This medicine is taken as needed and not on a fixed schedule. If it is prescribed for pulmonary hypertension and you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it’s almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one. Do not take double doses.

  • nitrates (for chest pain) – can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure

What should I watch for while using this medicine?

  • Seek immediate medical attention if you have an erection lasting more than 4 hours (priapism)—this is a medical emergency.

  • Stop use and get help if you experience chest pain, sudden vision loss, or severe dizziness.

  • Avoid alcohol, as it may increase the risk of side effects like dizziness or low blood pressure.

  • This medicine does not protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Practice safe sex.


What side effects may I notice from this medicine?

Side effects that you should report to your doctor or health care professional as soon as possible:

  • allergic reactions like skin rash, itching, swelling of the face/lips/tongue/throat

  • chest pain or palpitations

  • sudden vision loss in one or both eyes

  • sudden hearing loss or ringing in the ears

  • painful or prolonged erection (lasting more than 4 hours)

  • seizures

  • shortness of breath or fainting

Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report if they continue or are bothersome):
