They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

  • prostate or breast cancer (in men)

  • enlarged prostate or trouble urinating

  • heart disease, high blood pressure, or history of heart attack

  • liver or kidney disease

  • high cholesterol or triglycerides

  • diabetes

  • obesity or sleep apnea

  • history of blood clots or stroke

  • high red blood cell count (polycythemia)

  • any allergies to testosterone, sesame oil, or benzyl benzoate

  • an unusual or allergic reaction to androgens or hormones

  • pregnant or trying to get pregnant (not for use in pregnant women)

  • breast-feeding


How should I use this medicine?

This medicine is given by intramuscular injection—usually into the gluteal (buttock) muscle—by a healthcare professional or as instructed.

Take your doses at regular intervals, typically every 2 to 4 weeks as directed by your doctor. Do not take your medicine more often than directed. Do not stop taking this medicine except on the advice of your doctor or health care professional.

Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.


What if I miss a dose?

What may interact with this medicine?

  • blood thinners like warfarin

  • difficulty urinating

  • acne or oily skin

  • voice changes

  • changes in libido or sexual function

  • signs of masculinization (in women) such as deepening of the voice or facial hair

Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs mental alertness until you know how this drug affects you.

Avoid drinking alcohol in excess. It may increase your risk of liver problems or dizziness.


What side effects may I notice from this medicine?

Side effects that you should report to your doctor or health care professional as soon as possible:

  • allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling of the face, lips, throat)

  • chest pain, shortness of breath

  • swelling in legs or ankles

  • yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice)

Where should I keep my medicine?
