TRETINOIN (present in Tretiheal 0.025% Cream) is a derivative of vitamin A used on the skin to treat acne. It helps by promoting the turnover of skin cells, preventing the formation of new acne, and improving the appearance of skin texture, tone, and pigmentation. It is also sometimes used to reduce fine wrinkles and sun-damaged skin.


What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?

They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

  • Eczema or very sensitive skin

  • Sunburn or windburn

  • History of skin cancer

  • If you are using any other acne or anti-aging treatments

  • An unusual or allergic reaction to tretinoin, retinoids, vitamin A products, or any ingredients in the cream

  • If you are exposed to excessive sunlight or use tanning beds

  • Pregnant or trying to get pregnant

  • Breast-feeding


How should I use this medicine?

Use this medicine on the skin only, exactly as prescribed.

  • Wash your hands before and after applying.

  • Gently wash your face with a mild cleanser and pat it dry before applying.

  • Apply a thin layer of the cream to the affected area once daily, usually at bedtime.

  • Avoid getting it in your eyes, mouth, nostrils, or on broken, sunburned, or eczematous skin.

  • Do not apply more than recommended. Using more will not speed up results and may increase irritation.

Overdosage: This product is for external use only. If swallowed, contact a poison control center or emergency room immediately.


What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. If it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not apply double or extra doses.


What may interact with this medicine?

  • Products containing benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, resorcinol, or sulfur

  • Abrasive soaps or cleansers

  • Astringents, drying cosmetics, or alcohol-based products

  • Medications that increase photosensitivity (e.g., tetracyclines, sulfonamides, thiazide diuretics)

  • Other topical acne treatments or peels unless advised by your doctor

What should I watch for while using this medicine?

  • Avoid direct sunlight, sunlamps, and tanning beds. Tretinoin increases skin sensitivity to UV rays.

  • Use sunscreen daily (SPF 30 or higher) and wear protective clothing when outdoors.

  • Your skin may appear red, dry, or start peeling within the first 2–4 weeks. This is expected and usually improves with continued use.

  • Use a non-comedogenic moisturizer to reduce dryness or irritation.

  • Avoid waxing or chemical depilatories on treated areas.

  • Tell your doctor if you become pregnant or plan to become pregnant.

  • If severe irritation, blistering, or burning occurs, stop using and consult your doctor.


What side effects may I notice from this medicine?

Side effects that you should report to your doctor as soon as possible:

  • Severe skin irritation, burning, or blistering

  • Eye, mouth, or mucosal irritation

  • Swelling or excessive redness

  • Signs of an allergic reaction (rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing)

Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report if they continue or are bothersome):

  • Mild stinging, burning, or tingling

  • Dryness or flaking of skin

  • Redness or peeling

  • Temporary worsening of acne

Where should I keep my medicine?

  • Keep out of the reach of children.

  • Store at room temperature between 20 to 25°C (68 to 77°F).

  • Keep the cap tightly closed.
