What is this medicine?

VIROVIR contains Famciclovir, an antiviral medication. It is used to treat infections caused by certain viruses, such as herpes zoster (shingles), genital herpes, and cold sores. In people with weakened immune systems, it may also help reduce the frequency and severity of herpes outbreaks. Famciclovir works by slowing the growth and spread of the virus, allowing the body to fight off the infection. It does not cure herpes but helps manage the symptoms.

They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

• kidney disease or kidney function problems

• immune system issues (such as HIV/AIDS or post-transplant therapy)

• galactose intolerance or Lapp lactase deficiency (due to lactose content in some tablets)

• history of allergic reaction to famciclovir or penciclovir

• pregnant or planning to become pregnant

• breast-feeding

How should I use this medicine?

Take this medicine by mouth, with or without food, as directed by your doctor. Take your doses at regular intervals. Do not take your medicine more often than directed. Continue the full course of treatment even if you feel better before it’s completed.

Drink plenty of fluids while taking this medication to help prevent kidney problems.

Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact a poison control center or emergency room right away.

What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.

• medicines that affect kidney function (e.g., NSAIDs like ibuprofen, some antibiotics)
